On December 16, the managing director of the Jewish religious community Mr. Alexander Fridkis made the ceremonial lighting of the first candle of Hanukkah at the Menorah Center.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the Chief Rabbi of Dnepropetrovsk and the region Mr. Shmuel Kaminezki congratulated everyone with the first day of Hanukkah. He reminded the guests about the importance of the holiday and added that we have Hanukkah during the whole year, because we are in the Menorah, which brings together people of all nationalities and faiths. Shmuel Kaminezki stressed the importance of Charitable Fund “Joint” in the life of Dnepropetrovsk Jewish community and gave the floor to the head of the fund’s regional division Mr. Jonathan Leifer.
Jonathan Leifer greeted all the participants and noted that this year the Menorah had united all Jewish organizations under one roof.
The celebration continued with Yakov Rogovoy’s concert and treats of guests with traditional Hanukkah donuts from the Menorah Grand Palace restaurant complex.
All residents and visitors of the city are welcome to join the celebration of Hanukkah for another 6 days (except Friday, December 19) at the Menorah Center.
On December 13-14, the Menorah Center hosted the 14th annual international tournament in ballroom dancing entitled “the Dnepropetrovsk Mayor’s Cup”.
This year, the floor of one of the best Ukraine’s halls – Menorah Grand Hall – had the privilege to welcome 700 dancing couples from Germany, Italy, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Spain and other countries, aged between 6 and 35.
Traditionally, the physically challenged couples also participated in the tournament. These dancers impressed everybody with their virtuosic and touching performance, and the audience gave them a long and standing ovation.
The event contained a number of international competitions built in:
WDSF Open Dnepropetrovsk Ukraine – Adult Ten Dance, Adult Standard, Adult Latin;
WDSF International Open Dnepropetrovsk Ukraine – Adult Standard;
WDSF World Open Dnepropetrovsk Ukraine – Adult Latin;
WDSF European Cup Dnepropetrovsk Ukraine – Adult Ten Dance.
The event organizers – Dancing Sports Club “Harmony” – expressed their deep appreciation and gratitude to the Menorah Center for the assistance in putting together the tournament.

The Menorah Center has prepared a festive program from 16 to 23 December (except Friday, December 19) from 17.00 to 18.00 at the intersection of galleries (near the big Hanukkah), in which everyone can enjoy:

– musical performances and entertainment;
– a treat with Hanukkah donuts.

On December 12-14, the Menorah Center will host the annual international tournament in ballroom dancing “The Mayor’s Cup 2014”.
“The tournament is conducted in Dnepropetrovsk for 14 years in a row. This year, it will take place in the cultural and business center Menorah. At present, the following countries have already confirmed their participation: Italy, Germany, Belarus, Spain, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Ukraine. Possibly, a couple from Russia will also join. Dancers from Georgia refused to come to Ukraine because of the events taking place in the east of the country”, said the artistic director of the dance-sport club “Harmony” Oleg Petrovsky.
The organizers expect the event to be attended by 600-700 couples from 24 countries.
On December 14, the Sinai hall of the Menorah Center will host the premiere of the musical for children and adults “The Imaginary Island” based on the fairy tale “Peter Pan”. This time, the guests will enjoy funny animators, aqua make-up, a fascinating performance, and a rousing disco with all the fairy tale heroes!
The performances will run as follows: 14.00-16.00; 17.00-19.00.
The event will be held as part of the charity action. One can buy a ticket not only for their child, but also for the children from the orphanage in Dnepropetrovsk. The cost of a charity ticket is 100 grivna.

On December 7, the Menorah Center will host a reception dedicated to the great tandem of the Creator and Entrepreneur, and especially the outstanding personality of Yves Saint Laurent – the greatest French couturier of the second half of the twentieth century, who rose and worked triumphantly during the long 50 years. Interest in the Maestro’s work and admiration for him are alive to this day.
The event will be opened in the Sinai hall with the acquaintance with Katya Pertsova, as well as with the premiere of a specially created video about the Maestro. Next, the audience will be able to enjoy lectures with the following themes: “Great couple of the creator and entrepreneur: Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge”, “How the great brand was created. Sources of inspiration” and “Yves Saint Laurent’s lifestyle. Life and the interiors”.
At 21:00, the historic mansion Pchelkin’s House will kindly open its doors for the final evening part of the gala reception “Art of Being. Maestro Yves Saint Laurent’s lifestyle”.
During the reception, the House will acquire the atmosphere of Yves Saint Laurent’s main mansion on Avenue Marceau in Paris. Champagne and snacks will be served, as was the custom after each show, exactly 4 times a year. Opera roles performed by the true prima, music, dancing and fun will accompany this evening. As through the mysterious magic, maestro’s favorite musical pieces will sound. An opportunity to spend time in the amazing atmosphere that was being created for more than a decade by the designer, will be granted to everyone, who comes to the evening part of the reception.
A retrospective exhibition of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge’s historic photographs, their joint offspring – the great French fashion house “Yves Saint Loran” will run in the mansion.

On December 4, DTEK and Dnepropetrovsk Regional Council will hold a press conference “On the start of a joint project on energy efficiency” at the Menorah Center.
DTEK and Dnepropetrovsk regional council are beginning to work together in the field of energy saving by combining the regional competition “Energy for the Future” with the DTEK’s project “Energy-efficient Schools”. Twenty schools of Dnepropetrovsk are to participate in the third wave of the “Energy-efficient schools” project.
At the press conference devoted to the launch of the project, the company’s representatives, regional and city council will talk about how students can learn energy saving, how much money will be spent on energy efficiency at Dnepropetrovsk schools, what results are expected from the project. Journalists will be able to get answers to their questions about the projects in the field of energy saving in Dnepropetrovsk region.

The new season of Dnepropetrovsk Fashion Days opened up on November 30 in the lush banquet hall of Pchelkin’s House.
The fashion show had a charitable purpose: to help the Ukrainian military. “All proceeds from the project, including the sale of tickets, are directed at helping our defenders at the ATO zone”, reported the organizers. The event also included a charity auction, during which viewers purchased two lots: a scarf for 620 grivna, and a ticket to the Fashion Day in Kiev for 1000 grivna.
Designers from Kiev, Donetsk, and Dnepropetrovsk: Slava Lins, Tatiana Vishnjakova, Natalia Chekhlova, Ruslan Verlos, Vika Frolova, Alyona Lyubchak, Daria Chuprina, Oleg Tarnavskiy and others presented their collections on the podium.
Ukraine’s most scandalous TV presenter Elena Filonova demonstrated a collection of exclusive hats. Designer Alexander Dets introduced three clothing lines simultaneously, and donated his branded T-shirt to a charity auction for 1000 grivna.
The trio “Jazzn’t lost”, singer Arturro Mass, and the LED dance-show presented a very interesting show program to the guests of the night.
